If you succeed, you pull yourself out, but all your rations have been ruined and you had to discard all your gold to keep yourself from being weighed down.
If you fail your hand slips, the quicksand envelops you, you suffocate as muddy water fills your lungs and your adventure ends here
Assuming you survive, you travel further and the reeds begin to stand taller than you. You see a path where the reeds have been trampled on. Obviously the Lizard men have been traveling through here.
