You make a small detour and go back to the fishing community to ask if you can get a ride to Reptile Marsh. The fishermen you ask meet your request with laughter.
"Ha ha! Yeah, and how about we just go slit our wrists and get it over with? There's no way you'll get any of us to take you up to Reptile Marsh."
"You won't have to go in! I just need you to take me up there!"
"You don't get it, the entire area is dangerous, not just the swamp itself. You don't think the inhabitants just stay in the swamp, do you? All kinds of nasty stuff comes crawling or swimming out of there ready to prey upon things that get too close."
"Well can I buy a boat then to go up there?"
"No, we need these boats to suppose our livelihood and they take time to make. Time we can't afford right now. Can't help you."
You're getting the impression that it wouldn't be THAT serious if they sold you a boat, rather than it just looks like they don't want to help you.
