You go to the Elders hut to find out what that was all about. The Elder is sitting in his chair on the shaky wooden platform outside of his hut.

*Elder: You did good young Hunter...Although you did not slay the dragon....You kept him from killing any of our town members thank you..

The elder gets done thanking you and gives you a little gold figure of a dragon. He says it is to be owned by the "protector". Apparently, you, are the protector.
