The Great Sael Adventure 1

You direct the Commodore to direct the catamaran to converge upon the canoe. As you approach the canoe with a friendly wave, the small vessel's occupants come clearly into view. There are two men aboard: a large, hairy man who you can tell seems uncharacteristically quiet and a very handsome blond man wearing a blue neckerchief that complements his alluring, demure green olive eyes.

The Commodore hollers, "Ahoy, fellow seafarers! If I may intrude upon your private rendezvous (or, as it may be) convocation, I would humbly ask as to the reason for your being in a canoe in the middle of the ocean."

The bear-like man grunts.

The other man, in a voice of suavité, explains that they were shipwrecked and took the canoe in order to get off the boat. They would have been helpless had the Brigadier not sprung into heroic action. Their crew has unfortunately all been divided, but before their expeditious and hurried departure they agreed to meet at Port O CAR-LOW-LOW-LOW-TUH. It's getting late, and they're getting sunburnt, and they have no food or water, and these are frankly unbecoming conditions for any man upon the sea.

The Commodore offers a hearty welcome and invites them on board. Both men carefully extricate themselves from the smaller boat and step onto the catamaran—one with great heft and one rather gingerly. You notice a substantial rocking when the bear man gets onto the catamaran—how on earth did the canoe stay afloat? A mystery for another time. You tie their canoe to your vessel, as any good host would.

Once all four of you are aboard the Luseal, the bear man grabs the Commodore's hand and shakes it, almost pulling him overboard. He introduces himself as "Brigadier Beary Bearensen" in between suspicious growls. The Commodore introduces himself as "The Commodore," which earns a second round of suspicious growls, both more suspicious and more growly than the first. The two of them are surprised at each other's rank and briefly argue over who should have command of the catamaran. Beary Bearensen suggests arm wrestling contest to settle the dispute, a suggestion at which the Commodore raises his eyebrows and balks. After a brief staring contest during which you gain a certain awareness of your loins, they decide to run the ship jointly.

The other man has dainty hands, as though he usually wears gloves—and he wouldn't be the first on the Luseal with such a proclivity. He introduces himself as Baron Wm. H. Alfredson, noting that "The Wm. H. stands for Williamsley Haree. My friends call me Berí, but you can call me Baron." Baron clasps your hand between both of his and brings it softly to his soft lips. "My rescuer, my dear savior. Obliged." He then turns to the Commodore and gives him a conventional handshake. "Commodore." "Baron," replies the Commodore. Noticing the man's hands are dainty, he gently squeezes a just one of them.

You decide to dine together for the evening, learning much of the histories of Beary and Berí (mostly from the latter, as the former has a habit of making bear noises at altogether unsuitable moments in conversation; these cause you and the Commodore to wince, but Baron seems to take them in stride, pausing only long enough in his patter to ensure he is heard while speaking). They explain that their ship, The Bonnie, had met an unfortunate end, and that the two of them had taken a canoe while other crew members had managed to find other small vessels, and they had all agreed to meet back at Port O CAR-LOW-LOW-LOW-TUH. This is not entirely surprising, as they had explained as much upon boarding the Luseal. They then go on to say that this reunion at the port is of utmost im-port-ance (a surprised chuckle slips out of your mouth; the Commodore only narrows his eyes), and they would so greatly appreciate your helping the Brigadier and Baron to their meeting place. While the Commodore's eyebrows dig deeper and deeper as he regards Brigadier Beary Bearensen's hairy and obstreperous table manners, Baron slips you a wink, which you hastily gulp down.

Will you help these two canoers (and is it just me, or could they be turned into canoodlers?)?
