Reservoir
"Do you want to go get something to eat instead?" I suggest.
"Sure." Rex agrees
He gets up and walks towards the door. I follow him. We leave the motel and start heading towards the diner.
We get to the diner within a matter of minutes. We walk inside and we see Janice taking the order of Tyriqua, a fennec fox our age who lives down past the post office. She used to bully me and the gang in school, but she became friendlier since our sophmore year.
Rex and I take a booth right next to hers, and Janice comes to take our order. I see Tyriqua looking at us. She smiles. I smile back. Rex looks at her with a slight glare.
"What do you want?" Janice asks.
"I'll have a hamburger and fries, please."
"I'll have the same." I tell her.
Janice nods. She leaves towards the kitchen, leaving Rex and I to ourselves.
"So what do you want to talk about?" Rex asks
"I have no idea."
We sit there in silence for a few minutes when Janice comes back with our food.
"Here you go, gentlemen." She tells us.
"Thank you." We say.
She leaves again.
"Hey, Tyriqua!" I call out.
Tyriqua looks.
"Hey Rex, when did you come back to Echo?" She asks
"Saturday." I answered for him
Tyriqua nods.
"Cool. I got back home yesterday." She says.
"Really? How was the concert?" I ask.
Tyriqua shrugs.
"It sucked." She says.
"It was boring."
I laugh. "I'm glad you had fun."
"Yeah... I guess." She says.
We both sit there in silence until Janice comes back with the drinks, "Here you go."
"Thank you." I tell her.
She leaves again.
"So what do you want to do after we eat?" Rex asks.
"I'm not sure." I say. "Do you want to go back to the motel?"
He nods. "Okay."
I take a sip of my drink. It's some kind of diet soda. I don't care. I like it.
"So?" Rex says.
"So what?" I ask.
"Do you want to go back to the motel?" he asks.
"What did you want to do after that?" I tell him.
"I don't know. We could try to find someone to hang out with."
"Like Priyan?" I ask
He shrugs "Maybe."
We both sit there in silence for a minute. I start playing with my straw. I see a small paper bag on the side of the booth from the diner.
"What's in the bag?" I ask.
"I don't know." He says.
I lean forward and open it. It's a chocolate bar. I unwrap it and take a bite. It's really good. I'm tempted to eat it all at once, but I don't. I give half of it to Rex. He takes a bite.
"This is really good." He says. "Do you want to finish it?"
I nod. He takes another bite and then puts the wrapped bar in its bag. He gives it back to me. We sit there in silence again. We finish our drinks and go to the cashier. We pay and leave. We walk back to the motel.
"We should invite Priyan over."
"Do you want to? I could ask."
"Oh yeah. I'll ask." I tell him.
He looks over at me. "You ready?"
"Yep." I tell him.
We knock on the the door to his motel room, and we hear footsteps. Priyan answers the door.
"Sup." He says.
"Hey Priyan." I say "Want to join us in Rex's room?''
"Yeah." He says
We go to Rex's room. We all sit down on the bed.
"So what do you guys want to do?" Priyan asks.
"We were wondering if you wanted to... go somewhere." I say.
Priyan shakes his head.
"No thanks. I'm fine right here." He says, lifting up a book.
We sit in silence for a little bit. I look at Priyan's book. It's cover says "Crimson Virgin". Apparently I heard it was some kind of vampire romance novel.
"Anyone want to go on a walk?" Rex suggested.
"Yeah. Okay." I tell him.
We head outside of the motel room. We walk down the streets of Echo until we reach the center of the town.
We come to a stop sign. We turn around and start walking back towards the motel room. I turn to see if Priyan's behind us, but he isn't. I shrug and continue walking. We come to the door of the motel room. It is dark out now. We walk inside.
"Do we have to go to bed?" Rex asked
"Yeah." I tell him.
We head to bed. We lie there in the dark. I hope Priyan's at least safe.
