Time Traveller

Erring on the side of caution, you decide to let the engineers who worked out how this device works make sure it's in reasonable working order before you use it again.

You lounge at the Overseer's desk, pawing through the data you recovered while on the other side of the lab the technicians are fiddling, hammering, tinkering and swearing.

Suddenly, there is a hiss of something escaping from the many tendrils of the machine's engine. One of the technicians swears loudly, kicks it and it stops. The Overseer raises an eyebrow.

"I think it's ready," one of the technicians announces two hours later, wiping sweat on his sleeve. "But she's a bit testy. A LOT testy. I don't advise any really lengthy trips. Short jumps only."

Nodding your understanding, you climb inside and let your fingers rest on the controls. It is time, you think, that you examined the future. But you remember the words of caution: short jumps. Even so, the idea of travelling into the distant future to see what has become of the human race is tantalising.

Or you can heed the advice and head into the nearer future, where the Overseer has told you some kind of revolution is happening.
