Soul Thief
Irene looked up at the God of Death with large, wonderous eyes.
It was true Irene fell in love with him far before he fell in love with her.
But it was not difficult for Oberon. Edol insisted these human females were of the utmost beauty, but the only being Oberon found that was of the utmost beauty was this Goddess of Spring.
And at first Oberon was skeptical, merely because Irene was just another creation of Edol.
Irene gave Oberon that white rose when they met.
Their following conversation went:
Thank you, Oberon said. You are very kind. You have incredible powers. Use them well.
Irene was taken by that compliment.
She brushed some of her wild red hair out of her face. She would touch the locks and they would float away.
"That is very kind of you to say, Oberon."
His name was sweet on her lips.
She smiled and Oberon was also taken.
Edol appeared.
"Sage Edol," Irene said.
Oberon did not look at him, could not take his gaze from this green-skinned beauty.
And Edol was very aware of Irene's beauty.
"Spring is to begin soon," Edol told her. "You have a lot of work ahead of you, my dear, but you are very capable."
"I love Earth," Irene said.
"As do I," Edol said and smiled.
Edol turned to Oberon, said, "Why don't you take Irene to Earth. She has a lot to learn, and you are very knowledgable, Oberon."
Edol had never complimented Oberon before.
Gladly, Oberon said.
Oberon reached out his hand, said, Do not be afraid of my hands. I am just an old skeleton.
"Why would I ever be afraid?" Irene asked.
Edol would later regret asking Oberon to take Irene to Earth. Their love that bloomed was a power Edol did not fully comprehend. And when Edol did not comprehend something, it was bound to be trouble.
