Then you hear a earsplitting scream behind you. You whirl round to see Goldflower, the hobbit member of your party, being backed up a tree by the largest spider you have yet seen. She screams again in pure terror, and you see her bejewelled sword lying useless on the ground.
You look desperately to Esmyralda, but she is busy fighting off two more spiders at the other end of the clearing -- although vaguely, as the author still has no idea what a katana is.
It is up to you to save Goldflower.
