Well, those days are gone, and they're never coming back. Hell, the computer I used to connect on that site back in the day, was the same price as the phone in my pocket I can use to do all of this, and was only 1/100th as powerful. The majority of my actual adventures and hay day back in Chars31 took place in a pre 9/11 world, for Christ sake!. And this is something the users have to come to accept.
Chars31 fulfilled a need of it's time, that was otherwise not available anywhere else, and those moments that we can recall were literal magic. But by todays standards? It's archaic and obsolete. However, unlike that original desktop computer, that is probably a pile of recycled parts, or melted plastic, or sitting in a landfill somewhere....Chars31 still exists. It can still be used, not quite from it's former glory, but it's still THERE....right where we left it. And people, for the most part, myself included, for the longest time....We don't care. It's right there, that thing, that relic from the 90's, the anthem of our childhood is right there, waiting to be used by literally anyone, at anytime, totally available, but it's not being utilized. It should be like finding your first tamagotchi in a drawer and miraculously the battery still works! People should be ecstatic about this! But they aren't.
Because life goes on.
There are now 1 billion more people in existence than there were in 1999.
YouTube is a thing. Xbox live is a thing. Steam is a thing. Netflix is a thing. Facebook is a thing.
So many things and people have emerged in the last 20 years, that were not there before. And that's what helped kill Chars31.
