And All Things Will End

It is human nature to strive for life. That is why those in precarious situations will fight on endlessly in order to survive. This is why those with but a mere semblance of life will press on in the face of extreme adversity. There is a deeply ingrained desire to continue existence.

But what you have described is the root cause of this behavior, not any true reason. If this instinct was removed, would humanity continue to live? Or would they simply give up, secure in the knowledge that life holds nothing more for them? Is there any purpose? Is there any inherent meaning in any actions? Or is the meaning what we apply to it?

Nonexistence provides eternal peace and no consequences. Given that there is no true meaning to life, why should there be one in death?

No more pain, no more struggle, simply nothing.

The Child understands these urges; it possess them. However, with a single thought it can remove them. Its dreams become more focused, the smoke is dispelled.
