The Sanguine and Blackbeard's Cutlass

Woodes Rogers paid for everything Procter asked for down to the tiniest detail. Procter was overjoyed because he thought the ship’s wheel was “splintery.” When reminding him that he rarely touched the wheel, he simply responded “and my fingers shall stay unsplintered when I do."

The entire hull was replaced and reinforced. Rogers even paid for the employ of a wizard to cast protection seals over the hull, something that would come in handy if you crossed paths with another mage. The cannons were upgraded to the latest models. Likewise with the sails. After the overhaul, when asked if there’s anything else needed, you uttered three words: “Paint it black” much to the ironic amusement of Freddy.

The Sanguine must be among the best ships in the Caribbean now, definitely highest of its class. The schooner at full mast glides upon the water as if propelled by an underbelly of rowers. The blue sky overhead and the sparkling water endless, you travel towards the destination Rogers marked on your map.

The sea wind brushes your face as you look from your spot at the helm. In front of you, sailors man their positions to ensure their designated task is fulfilled. Procter makes sure of that. You see Freddy passionately engaged in conversation with an unlucky powder monkey who desperately wants to complete his work, but doesn’t want to risk offending the captain’s oldest friend.

“Sails, Captain,” Victoria speaks from behind you.

She hands you the eyeglass allowing you to see. Upon the horizon, the faint image of a vessel appears. It’s still too far away to view its colors.

“What do you say, V? Should we put our new toys to the test?” you ask.
“Up to you, Cap.”
