Killing Xanathar

When you walk into the next room, you see no danger at all, but you see a pedestal with a staff on it. The staff radiates some type of energy that you've never felt before, as you examine the staff, you notice ancient inscriptions on the staff's shaft and the staff looks like it hasn't been touched in decades. You look around the pedestal once more to check if there are any traps on it. You can't find any, so it seems safe.
