We are the remnants of humanity, all the tribes are. But we are very different from the old empire citizens. They even probably deem us as repugnant, deviant as their times were times of abundance. There were animals in millions of species from minuscule to Giants as the Dinosaurs. And there were Plants. Plants that create oxygen, plants that were food and medicine...
But all that disappeared with The Total war that destroyed Everything. The empire was fractured socially to many colonies handle by one centralized power on Earth. The war was inevitable. And both sides knew it. To that regard, they enchanted their citizens extensively to withstand any attack for the other faction. Adding suppletory lungs poison resistant nanoparticles that attack radiation. Even some bioluminescence in some tribes.
And the war came, as everyone was expecting it. Bring fire and atomic radiation to the space clashing titans in the cold, Releasing atmospheric destructors, acid rain...
Finally, nobody else remained no animals no plants no even fungus. Only those enchanted by the old empire. Hungry and desperate. And they were only people.
Of course, most people choose life, and with that the gritty reality of cannibalism. And the system we actually have of The tribes and Tribal wars to acquire slaves and meat.
It's not perfect, but nothing in this universe is.
Rules:
1 One can not eat the flesh of the same tribe. (slaves, meat bags and vagrants are not considered tribe members).
2-Slaves can't eat meat only protein artificial rations.
3-Nobility status citizens are safe and secure from the hunt and Tribal wars.

The third first-class is immutable, those who born slaves with die slaves and the same for vagrants, but their members can not only be hunted down by other tribes to be made slaves from them. In an emergency, they can become slaves or even meat bag cattle. As vagrants aren't considered tribe members, just ramble that lives of the Tribes' mercy and to be a loot price in wars.
Tribe structures and differences
Tribes have originated at the beginning of The Great famine, after the total obliteration of all life in the Galaxy except for the heavy enhanced and bioengineered humans who have heavy animal genetic traits added to further add resistance.
The differences between the animistic traits are the main reason for the different tribes. Cat people, Shark people, Platypus... Even though most of their DNA is the same the minor cosmetics and skills make them separate from each other, and is the cause of the total war situation we have been in the last 3,000 years.
We are part of the Feline tribe who is one of the biggest tribes in the entire Galaxy and probably the most stratified of the clans. All that subclasses are based on the specific feline animal, that each subclass is enhanced with.
From the elderly domestic cat to the majestic lion. Our tribe is focused more on dexterity and fast conquests of slaves and resources.

Feline Tribe is currently on war with the Octopus tribe, with the Hog clan and with the Cow tribe.
