With what is either courage or optimism in your heart you march through the main entrance of the village, your stride long and confident. You peer through the open doors of the houses as you walk down the main path to the village center and call out greetings and offerings of help in a loud, clear voice. The only response you receive is your own voice as it echoes throughout the passages and alleyways.
You turn to look for your companions, but you do not see them. It is likely that they have taken a more stealth-oriented approach to the entrance of the village.
Still, you continue to walk down the street, calling out various variations of "Is anyone there?" and similar phrases as you walk.
That is, until you reach the center of the village. At this point the words wither and die in your throat, and you know that using them is pointless.
