"Sometime in the early summer, when you were around 2 years old?" She calculates, running her hands through her hair. She seemed like she was already tired of even the prospect of having to explain this. She stood up and went towards the holo, waving her pointer finger towards the large photo of the burning towers of the headline. "A series of linked hotels on Corellia burst into flames after what was thought to be a gas accident at the base floors with the parking. Basically someone forgot their ship was still on, oil leaked and started burning when everyone was sound asleep." She moves her hand and the newspaper flips manually, making me lean against the chair and squint to try and read. The font was too small.

"From 1964 residents in the hotels at the time only 35 survived. The rest were burned to almost a crisp and the ones who were close to life with severe burn marks, died afterwards in the healing process. It was a messy day for everyone and I'm thankful the case has been closed, because by the Creators I'm tired of trying to solve this one." She pinches the bridge of her nose and I stare at her, seemingly remembering just faint scenes from this. Have we already talked about this and I've just forgotten?

"Why do I feel like we talked about this once?" I asked her, pulling my legs up to my chest. She turned the hologram and sighed, murmuring with defiance in her tone. "Because I did a report on it to pass my last exams before becoming a Lieutentant when I was finishing private classes. It took me weeks to finish it."

Now, that made more sense.

I watched as she pointed at a picture of Raller. He was wearing a long, brown coat and his hair was in a ponytail hanging low on his shoulder, just like Rose's was. She seemed to look at that photo with what felt like more disgust than her looking at broccoli. "This is Rellar Iomna. Known spacer, smuggler and creator of a highly-expensive, highly-addictive brand of cigarettes. He's also known as the Dealer and Snake Eyes among Huttians and Canto Bait frequent visitors. He was born in the Dagobah system and made quite a name for himself when he got his first ever ship by cheating at a game of galactic poker and using his charm to lie and chat his way into winning." She hissed, turning the picture to show a closer picture of his face. He had a stubble and a scar over his lip, a large grin plastered on his face.

"You talk about it like you were there." I joked, making Rose roll her eyes.

"I know too much about him not to be salty. Anyways, Rellar used that ship to take all his measly belongings and transfer to Hutt Space, where he made deals with even Jabba the Hutt during the time Han Solo was still an active smuggler. He was and is still a very good liar and charmer, but also a frequent helper of ours that prevents the FO from taking him in our dungeons and slaughtering him. But, he also works with the Resistance, so you know how everyone feels about him at this point."

"He's exceptionally smart and has outrun galactic police so many times it's hard to count if you're double limbed. He knows atleast a dozen conversational languages and knows the mathematics behind every Sabacc dealing. What connects him to this case is only the fact that, during the time of the fires, some people on Corellia claimed to have seen his ship far up into the sky before the fires were set, and no trace of it after them. There was no DNA proof, no photos, nothing."

She turned the hologram to show an actual video of the man in front of FO judges, dressed in all white and handcuffed. He turned his head to the camera and smiled. In the frame was another blonde woman that I hadn't seen before but reminded me of the one in the documents, while the other was undoubtedly the one with the headscarf. Rose paused the video, pointing again to Raller. "Everyone knows that after the fires, he got a bunch of money from some forces and built his entire empire of casinos around and on Canto Bait. Everyone also knows that he was not keen on not having his debts paid whenever someone owed him, so he did the logical thing: whenever the holders of his casinos on Canto didn't pay their rent to him, he would get mad but would 'forgive them'. Then, he made this wonderful brand of death sticks that are laced full of drugs, and sent them on Canto for everyone to try during their games of poker. They make you feel incredibly lucky but also incredibly addicted to the games, and soon enough Raller was making more profit from the casino goers buying his cigarettes than the casinos were making from the poeople playing their games. As I said, smart man."

I blinked a few times as she continued, seemingly constantly having a supply of breath. "The sightings people claimed of him during the fires were never proved true, and that's why the case was closed. The case wasn't even that long, only 3 months where he spent time in jail for his laced drug-addictive cigarettes rather than the fire accusations. The fires were 'proven' to be from an oil leakage and all was well that ended well." She turned the video on again as the women were speaking in languages I couldn't understand, making me uneasy. "That's what they have the galaxy to believe. We, know better."

"See, because Raller was such a traitor and scum of the universe with his dealings and working with everyone, the FO had a serious bounty on his head with massive credits already hanged around the neck of that bounty hunter that catches him. That lead to the interest of one Mandalorian bounty hunter and surprisingly, a First Order general, Davshe Kandosii. She had a reputation of being a brutal killer, but also a heavy drinker and very, very careful in what she ate. She was a very picky woman on the terms of people she trusted, but alsoo had some interesting beliefs and political views. She believed that neither the First Order or the Resistance were on the good side, as there never was a good side for her, only a side she worked for. The woman you saw on the clip is her twin sister, Onre Kandosii, a Resistance deserter and a sympathiser of Raller's ways. She was his lawyer in the case and won it fair and square by bringing concrete evidence that Raller had nothing to do with the fire. His cigarettes are re-branded from then and sold by her, and they've been powerful allies ever since."

"It's not a mystery that Davshe didn't enjoy much of her time on the First Order. She oftenly said that she would be retiring and tried to revoke herself out of service atleast 4 times. Her sister tried to bring her into the Resistance but it didn't work. Because of these beliefs there's a fair amount of people in our ranks that believe that Raller set the fire under command of higher ups from the First Order. The people who were staying in the hotels were all Resistance fighters and officers, and unfortunately Davshe found herself in that hotel the same night. She died in the fires, while her sister survived."

The second photo showed Davshe and, surprisingly, my father talking over a cigarette, somewhere in the west wing of the ship. He seemed much younger, probably at the time when Brendol was still alive. "She was close friends with your father, but never more than that. Your father had her as a mentor and had a short speech during her funeral, but I think he sealed off that holo. We never speak about her and noone talks about the Kandosii case anymore, because the FO knows how it mostly went: Davshe was set to get Raller's head as a former bounty hunter, everyone knew she was a sympathiser of the Resistance, they saw the chance to kill two birds with one stone in the terms of lighting a fire in the Corellian hotels that were filled with Rebellion fighters and the worm that was biting in the Order's side- that is Davshe - hired Raller to burn the place down, and subsequently got him in jail for the smallest amount of time so the First Order's tracks of this 'incident' were covered up."

She finally took a breath, turning the holo one more time. It showed the woman in the headscarf. "This is Head Master of the Nabooian Council, Naate Jeboe'i. She was one of the survivors of the fire as well, significant helper of the Resistance and an important role to the royal family, as her grandmother was one of the main servants of Padme Amidala. She's considered royalty herself, so this assault with the fires was also considered an attack on her Highness, Jeboe'i. She keeps low now and doesn't really speak publicly of it, but she was an important part of bailing Rellar out too. I choose to believe it's because Onre and Naate have something, but I beg to differ."

"And there you have it. The entire Kandosii Case in 10 minutes, and my entire 98 page research in short." Rose had turned a positive shade of pink, and I was afraid that she would pass out on the floor. I sat up a little straighter in the chair and felt a little crack in my aching back, sighing. She turned off the photos, going back to sit in her sofa again.
