Just an Ordinary Day in the Life of an Ordinary Girl

For a moment Zack seems confused. A moment later the look on his face changes from confused to hurt to offended. He takes a step back and, without saying a word, begins to pack his clothes.

"Wait," you try to say, but there's no sound coming out. "Wait!" you try again, this time succesfully. "I didn't mean... I mean, I... I didn't want to hurt your feelings," you stammer, regretting the way you are handling the situation, or maybe even regretting the choice you made. "You have to understand, I'm just very confused right now."
No reply, which doesn't surprise you one bit. After all, you don't even understand yourself sometimes. Then how is Zack supposed to understand you, huh?

"What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to Elmrow," is his short but very to-the-point answer. "I must end this curse. I should never have come with you anyway." He doesn't look you in the eye, but instead turns around and starts walking towards the path that leads through between the dunes back to where you parked the car a few hours ago.

You run after him, but find it hard to keep up with his pace. "I'm sorry," you whisper sincerely.
You had hoped he was on his way to the car, but your hopes fade as soon as he walks right past it.

You stop for a moment and feverishly try to come up with something to make it all up. As you see it, there's no use in following Zack. Not now he's so upset. No, the only sensible thing you can do now is forget about him and move on.

You watch Zack turn into nothing more than a dark silhouette against the reddish sky. The scene looks almost exactly a rewind of the moment he came up to your car this morning at sunrise.

A little sad you go back to the beach and get the towels and picknick basket that you forgot to take in your hurry. Then you get into your car and start driving. Home...
