A Day in the Life
"YES ME DEAF" you sign back. "YOU KNOW SIGN YOU?"
"YES!" She signs excitedly. She fumbles with a few of her signs but legibly explains that she took two years in high school and has continued to learn into her first year at the local community college.
That is so cool to you. You have a short and pleasant conversation and learn that she is a brand new hire at the cafe and the owner was excited to hire someone with ASL knowledge because of a regular customer who is Deaf. That must be you! The new cashier seems a little choppy in her singing, but still easy and fun to chat with as she punches in your order and payment is completed.
"SORRY WORK ME LATE" you sign with genuine emotion in your face-- wishing you could chat a little longer.
"NO PROBLEM" she signs, "SEE AROUND WILL"
You wave goodbye, collect your snack and orange juice, and are back on your way to work.
