A Tale of Two Choices

With trembling hands, Dorothea opened the locket. Inside she found a lock of auburn hair and a note. The hair was unusual. There was no-one in the orphanage who had red hair.

Dorothea opened the note and read,

"My love, may this remind you of me when all we have are memories. Cecily my dearest."

No-one in the orphanage was called Cecily. Dorothea knew that the people sitting on either side of her in the sewing room were Fiona, an older girl that Dorothea had never had much to do with, and Lizzy, a nasty hateful girl who would do anything to get others into trouble.
