In The Day

Your friend looks over at you when the waitress walks away to get the drinks.

"What?" you ask, looking at your friend.

"Why did you get a straw? Don't you know the effect it has?" they asked.

"It helps me drink faster," you shrug your shoulder. What's the big deal?

"I know that it does that, but it also harms the environment."

"How so?" you question.

"They aren't degradable, so even though it takes two-hundred years to decompose they never fully break down. It's always going to be here."

You were on the verge replying and possibly apologizing but the waitress returned with your drinks. Talk about good timing.

"Are you two ready to order?" the waitress asked, glancing back and forth between the two of you.

"Yes," your friend says before rattling off her order to the waitress, who wrote it down as she spoke.

"And for you?" the waitress asks, turning towards me, notepad and pen in hand.
