Out of Time
You go with your gut instinct and stay in the room. It is better to find out what is going and what you need to do before you walk around aimlessly. Doing something risky right now might be your death sentence. Across the room, the bed sheets rustle and your head snaps back in an instant. An angel, or what you believe is one, is leaning over your bed admiring your lifeless body. Your exhausted mind becomes more overwhelmed with questions that you aren't sure you want answers to. You don't even know where to start with this and apparently, neither does your visitor.
"Hi Amara," she starts.
"Who are you?" are the only words you can manage.
"I'm Evita, your guardian angel." Because of course you have one of those.
"Evita, what's going on? How am I here, but also not?"
"Surprise, surprise, you're in a coma!" A coma? You almost can't believe it at first. The realization of how much sense it makes hits you like a brick. How had you not thought of that before?
"How did I end up in a coma?" You thought you would be getting answers, but instead they just keep multiplying.
"Can't tell you that. Trust me, I would if I could."
"What do you mean, 'if you could'?"
"I don't know what happened to you, no one does. It's your responsibility to find out. Once you do, you can rejoin your body and go back to your normal life."
"So I'm disconnected from my body. That's why one version of me is there," Amara points to the lifeless duplicate on the hospital bed, then back to herself, "and one of me is here talking to you."
"Exactly." Evita smiles like this all makes total sense. It does not.
"Well, what happens if I can't solve it?"
"Well, if you make a mistake, you'll die. Not just in here, in there too," she points to your comatose body, "so don't make any mistakes. You can do this, Amara. Just figure out who put you in this coma, and you'll be free."
Evita disappears in a flash of blinding light, leaving you perplexed in the empty hospital room, clueless of where to start.
Do you go to your first memory or attempt to contact Evita again?
