Out of Time
After Evita disappears and leaves you by your lonesome, you know that you have nowhere to start. You need her help. "Evita," You call, but just like before, no one answers. You once again scream at the top of your lungs to get Evita's attention, but no one answers. Before you can stop yourself, you furiously think about the memory furthest from here so you can force Evita to come find you. You blink twice, finding yourself wading in the crystal blue waters of Hawaii. You see your parents playing with a little version of you on the beach. You’re building your first sand castle and your parents watch you admiringly.
“Why am I here?” you wonder to yourself. You swim effortlessly through the water towards the beach to get a closer look.
“You’re doing so good, Amara!” Your mother coos. You swim a little closer, wondering what is so important about this one memory.
Finally, you reach the beach and watch as two year old you slaps sand on top of the messiest sand castle you’ve ever seen. Your parents act like you’re Picasso, and this sand castle is a true artist’s masterpiece. You smile, getting lost in your thoughts for the time being. Unknowingly, your parents begin to stare at you, wondering why you’re looking at them so intently.
“Why are you staring at us?” This question catches you off guard. For a brief second, you pause, deciding what to say.
Do you choose try to make conversation with your parents or do you go hide in the ocean?
