Gotham's Story

When you sit in the police station an hour later, an officer named Gordon comes to your side.
"Don't worry, son," he assures you. "We'll catch the man who did this."
You feel no comfort from his words- how would arresting a mugger bring your parents back to life? But you know he means well, so you give a nod without looking at him. It seems to be enough, because he stands and to brushes off his trousers.
"I think I do have some good news for you now, though. You have a visitor." He gestures towards the door where Alfred is standing.
Alfred Pennyworth has been your family's butler (and your friend) for as long as you can remember. An English gentleman with impeccable manners, he seems out of place in Gotham's crowded police station. You feel tears come unbidden to your eyes and Alfred moves deftly to wipe them with his hand.
"You may cry Master Bruce, let it out," he consoles. "I will certainly miss them too. Let us hurry home, though, and get you a warm drink."
He gives you a saddened smile. "I know a perfect tea for painful days."
His words bring you warmth, but you also notice that Alfred's normally flawless suit is missing its pocket hankerchief..
