As Craig internalized his situation, Caleb picked up and bit into a particularly large potato chip. This caused a few fragments of the chip to crash down next to the napkin where the transformed teen had been hiding. The sudden, unexpected disturbance caused the teen's newly acquired form initiate an instinctual response.
*CRRRIK-CRRRIK*
"Oh god...d-did I just..." Craig whimpered to himself in disbelief.
The sudden, unexpected cricket noise immediately caught Caleb's attention. The young tween stopped what he was doing and focused in on the crumpled napkin on the desk next to him.
"OH GOD, FUCK!! DAMMIT! WHY DID I DO THAT?!" Craig cried internally as he backed away further into the ketchup stained napkin.
The effort to further conceal himself quickly proved futile as the napkin above him suddenly lifted, leaving him wide open on the flat wooden surface.
As his vision adapted to the light, Craig's teeny emotionless black eyes connected with Caleb's. The middle schooler stared down at the newly revealed bug with an unnervingly blank expression.
"C..Caleb... W-wait!....I-It's me!! Craig!! p-please!! You gotta help me!!!" Craig pleaded pathetically as he watched the gears begin to turn in the boy's head.
The worst case scenario seemed to play out as Caleb began to slowly lift his free hand over the small 'bug''s location. Though Craig didn't want to believe it, it was completely clear from Caleb's blank expression that the boy had no idea it was really him. All the sixth grader saw was a tiny green bug to squash.
Craig just stood there paralyzed as the shadowy underside of his little brother's enormous palm began to slowly loom directly over him. Driven by pure fear and survival instinct, the tiny green cricket lunged itself away from its imminent doom.
