Ballad of the Bear
Looking behind you one more time t’wards him
You wonder whether you’ve done the right thing
Once home, you fill up your beer to the rim
Feeling you have honored country and king
Tonight you slumber soundly and sweetly
Tonight you’ve no worries of the great Bear
Tonight you can rest your soul completely
Tonight you have left him alone out there
Tossing and turning, you curse your ill luck
Remem’bring sadly as you haw and hem
That each soul on Earth, each man, deer or duck
Needs someone to hold, someone to love them
Ashamed, you turn your face unto the night
Your heart filled with questions, roiling in fright
