Solipsism

"Whatever you say," said the other voice.

I started with the landscape, creating a floating city in the sky. I made the ground below into farmland, and gave them the ability to enchant rafts so that they could travel back and forth. I expanded the city, making streets and residential districts which were separate from the numerous market squares, all so that the city could be prosperous. And to give the world structure, I made sure the city had an impressive citadel in its center, to house the government.

I watched the people grow; hesitant at first, soon they were using designing faster, sleeker sky rafts for racing and recreation. They started using the magical gifts of the elements I gave them, coming up with innovative uses of fire and water, wind and earth. I laughed as they started to circumvent technology altogether, using their magics to cook food, weave clothing, and temper metals.

"Are you seriously enjoying this?" asked the other voice. "This whole setup is idiotic. For one thing, you didn't put any balance whatsoever into the magic system. There's absolutely nothing stopping someone from going on a complete rampage. Not only that- why are they living in a giant floating city? There's absolutely no reason for this. It makes no sense to have everyone crammed up there in the sky when there's so much open land down below."

"Stop complaining," I said. "I happen to like this world. Sure, it's a little strange, but what world isn't? Besides, I told you this would be a magical world. If I listened to you, everything would become boring."

"You mean practical," countered the other voice. "You realize I'm not going to shut up until you fix this, right?"

"But it's not... ugh, fine, how about a compromise?" I said. I wasn't happy about it, but if I didn't make the other voice happy, he was sure to destroy everything that I had made. Again. "I'll fix one of your issues, but the other one gets to stay. Okay?"
