Fired!
I carry my bags to Doe's car. "Let's head across the street," I say after Doe locks her car. We proceed to the ground floor of a three-storey building with a large "Room for Rent" sign.
We approach the front desk. "Which rooms are still available?" Doe asks.
"This may be quite expensive," I whisper. Doe glances at me with eyes that said, "shut up."
"We have three rooms in the second floor, and one in the third," the concierge says.
"Could we take a look?" Doe asks.
"Just a minute," says the man, as he picks up a phone call. After about a couple of minutes, he leads us to the elevator and in no time, we are inside the vacant room on the third floor.
I could tell by the look on Doe's face that the room met her standards. "I'll take it," Doe says, somewhat excitedly. I am taken aback, unable to say anything. After paying for a month in advance, Doe grabs my hand as we exit the building.
"What's this all about?" I ask. "What are you trying to do?"
"I'm paying for your apartment."
"Why?"
What is Doe's reason?
