Fired!

"Yeah, sure," I reply as I exit Linda's office.

"You'll have to get into some overalls your size," Linda says, pointing to a supply room marked 'Uniforms'. "And next time, come to work in leather work boots." I hurriedly enter the room and don one which I thought fit my size.

As I close the door and head for the street, Linda hands me some cash. "For your taxi," she says. I pocket the bills and wait by the corner for a taxi. One shows up in less than a minute, and I give the driver the address.

I reach the ground floor of the building and proceed to the elevator. When the elevator doors open on the fifth floor, I am greeted with bare, unpainted walls. It appears to be very quiet. I walk around, trying to find some noise.

I hear a slight rustling sound in one of the rooms. I open the door noiselessly and peer inside. A woman in a white sports bra, a pair of white short shorts, and a pair of leather work boots, has her back turned towards me. She is busily rolling paint onto the wall. A pair of overalls lies crumpled on the floor.

"Excuse me," I call out. "Where do I find Karen White?"

"Who wants to know?" she asks, without glancing in my direction.

"I'm John," I say hesitantly. "Linda said I should..."

"Oh, so you're the new kid," she says, finally turning to face me.

Is she Karen?
