"We're going to go for the guards first," Alex said. "David, sorry to say, but we can't blow too much shit up yet. We'll have to go in quiet." David sighed sadly, patting the enormous machine guns on his back.
"It's okay babies," he assured them. "Every dog has his day."
"I'll take the two on the ground out," Bernice broke in.
"Good," Alex replied. "Morgan, cover her as best you can. David and I will hold until you give us the all clear." Both women nodded, then Bernice slipped silently into the shadows against the wall.
Alex looked up at the guards on the tower, planning his next move. However, just as he was about to issue orders, his thoughts were interupted by two sharp cracks. Looking toward the three guards at the door, he saw that all but one was dead...
And that one guard had a shotgun pointed directly at Bernice's head. She was frozen in a crouch, her pistol aimed at the man's chest. The spotlights had already swung down to reveal her armor reflecting in the cold night air.
"Morgan!" Alex hissed, but the sound of a gunshot ripped through the air, cutting him off.
Alex had instinctively shut his eyes at the sound, and reopened them to look at where Bernice had been...but in her place was the third guard, dead on the ground. Morgan loaded another round into the chamber of her rifle.
"Thanks," Bernice said as she materialized out of the shadows behind the three assassins.
"Clumsy," David muttered, shaking his head.
"The tower!" Morgan cried as alarms began blaring inside the CEL base.
