Of course, the second you start gasping and choking you begin having a REAL athsma attack. Some people just have no luck.
It turns out you WERE being watched, though, as three officers run in just as your vision begins getting swimmy and black-and-whitish. You can't tell what they do to you, since your eyes have rolled up and are focusing quite nicely on the pitted concrete ceiling and anyway you're sort of concentrating on not dying at the moment, but you hear a terrible, wet rip, feel a sharp pain, and then... nothing. You can breathe - and not only that, breathe better than you could before. You realise, with a shock, that the respiratory problems that have plagued you since birth, always making breathing a rattling, tickling annoyance, have completely disappeared.
