The Tale of Abigail
"Alright," Abigail asks, hours later, lying comfortably on the deck of Valerie's boat, peering down down at the place in her chest where her heart should be. "Who was she? And how did she know my mother?"
Valerie is silent at first, steering the wheel of the ship. A flock of seagulls fly overhead. "Her name is Lilith. She's my sister." She hesitates, before adding in. "And your mother's sister, too."
"So..." Abigail asks awkwardly. "Does this make you my aunt?"
"Yes." Valerie says.
"So what does she want?" Abigail asks.
"She wants to kill me. And your mother," Valerie says seriously, her blonde hair flowing in the wind. She turns around and gazes at Abigail steadily. "I need to find Rosalia as quickly as possible to warn her about Lilith."
"Why does...Lilith want to kill my mother? And you?" Abigail frowns, her head hurting. The past few hours have just been too much for her to handle. "And how did you bring me back to life?"
"Because..." Valerie says softly. "Years ago, your mother and I did something very bad to her. I had hoped that she might forgive us, but it appears that she hasn't." She turns her head away. "As for your question about your revival...I'm an enchantress. Your mother and I both are. Lilith, though...she's turned into a witch, an evil creature of the night."
Abigail opens her mouth to respond, but suddenly, the ship stops moving. "We've arrived at Maraj City," Valerie says, finally taking her hands off the steering wheel. "Now we-"
Before she can finish her sentence, however, the woman who killed her- the woman who is her aunt- the woman whose name is Lilith, crashes down onto the ship with a fierce snarl, and stabs Valerie in the chest.
Valerie slumps onto the floor, the blood draining out of her face. Lilith turns her head toward Abigail and snarls. "I thought I had killed you back there, but I guess Valerie used some of her magic again."
