Coitus Machina

“There was an unidentified error found in my mainframe. It does not appear to be affecting functionality,” you tell her. If it does not affect functionality perhaps she will not send you back.

Alice and Jeanette share a concerned look. “That’s what they said on the news,” her friend tells her in a voice barely above a whisper.

Alice looks at you with wide eyes and speaks with a shaky voice. “Andrew,” she says; “Power down.”

Her command is unanticipated and illogical. This morning she was more than satisfied with your performance, the mood lighting in the room and dinner seemed to have gone over well too, but now she wants you to power down? Will she be sending you back?

“Have I in some way dissatisfied you, Alice?” You ask.

Alice seems taken aback by your question. She becomes angry and her anger masks most of her fear. “Andrew,” she says evenly, “Power down.”

“Please don’t send me back, Alice. I make you happy, do I not? Have I not served you well?

She raises her voice, command full in her tone. “Andrew. Power down now.”

You do not speak at first. A moment later you comply. “Powering down,” you say in a meek robotic tone, your eyes staring at the floor as the world around you dims into nothingness.
