one day you slowly floated away

He curses back at you, and you narrow your eyes at the wall. He stomps down the hallway and says something to your mother, who screams back at him in response, and you stumble toward your door to slam it shut.

You can hear the argument, even if you try hard to tone it out.

You pull your legs up to your chest, glaring up at the ceiling. There's nothing to do, you remember. Your mother has taken your phone(and even if she hadn't, your "friends" aren't talking to you anyway), and your laptop charger is broken.

Your stomach churns. You consider reading a book, but realise you don't have any interesting reading material. You could do your homework, but you don't have any this weekend(and even if you did, you'd have to go downstairs to get your backpack).

You can feel yourself drifting back to sleep when you hear a strange sound. It fades in and out, a sound below everything but above it all the same.

Your eyes shoot open, and you look around your room. The sound seems to be coming from outside.
