Valencia's preeminent landmark is the City of Arts and Sciences, an avant-garde and futuristic museum complex located in Valencia's capital city, also named Valencia. World-renowned (and city-born) architect Santiago Calatrava designed the City of Arts and Sciences, the crown jewel of which is the Queen Sofia Palace of the Arts, opened in 2006- an opera house and performing arts center with four spacious rooms. Other attractions in the City of Arts and Sciences include an IMAX cinema/planetarium, an interactive science museum, an aquarium, a bridge, restaurants, and an outdoor botanic garden/sculpture gallery.
