The Island of Destiny
You hear more shots being let off by the deranged group of hunters as you sprint into the jungle. As fast as you possibly can, you bound over logs, squeeze between trees, and hop through bushes and shrubs, all the while hearing the men still charging behind you. At one point you hear one of them yell in pain and a surge of hope pounds through your chest, maybe that will hold them up.
But not daring to look back yet, you rush on for several more minutes until finally you come to a halt in front of a natural stone bridge that crosses over a river to a nearby cliff. You have a massive stitch in your side and as you clutch it, grasping for breath, you sigh in relief as there doesn't seem to be anybody around you.
Now, you begin to make your way across the stone bridge. However, you don't get very far when you hear the click of a cocked rifle behind you and a voice barking "Hands up!"
Fear instantly pounding back into your veins, you feebly stick your hands up into the air and turn around slowly. There stands one of the hunters, a straggly middle-aged man with a mess of stubbed hairs around his jaw and a maniacal look in his eye.
"You're my kill now," he says and you are about to open up your mouth to try and reason except at that instant a boulder falls down from above and collapses right onto the man, crushing him with a CRUNCH.
You stand there in shock, awe, and horror until then something even more incredible happens. Out of thin air, a smoky silver snake materializes on top of the boulder and gazes at you. Not sure of what to make of this, you stay rooted to the ground, not moving a muscle.
The snake hisses, a bit of steam emanating from this tongue, and then speaks in a surprisingly soothing voice "You musssst find the valley of ssserpentssss, young one. That iss your desstiny."
With that, the snake disappears in a cloud of silver smoke, which quickly disappears in turn. In a few short moments, you are left standing there, wondering whether or not you've lost your mind or if that really could have just happened.
Finally, after what feels like a lifetime of staring at the boulder, you discover that your feet are moving again and before you really realize what's happened, you find yourself across the stone bridge and now standing beside a great cliff.
You notice now in the cliff wall that there is a picture of a snake carved into it. Its head is looking forward, however its tail is pointed up. You gaze upward to the top of the cliff and see that the canopy is blocking a good view of the top. However, there is a vine that may or may not be strong enough to hold you, if you're up to the task of making that climb.
But is that the way you should go? Should you follow the carved snake's head or its tail?
