Forest Dweller

FINAL BATTLE STAGE 2: A Meeting With Death: Realization
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So, you survived... it seems I will have to lift a finger after all to crush you and your idealistic beliefs." You stay silent, getting ready for him.
"No smug comments, boy? Speechless?" Your silence continues, not wanting to anger him- getting him off guard is your only hope of survival.
"Fine." He continues, his voice a long, drawn-out hiss that makes you shudder. "If you're not going to show any fighting spirit... neither am I." With that, he turns and, to your disbelief, walks away. You stay on your guard and are glad you do, a dark writhing form drops from the heavens and nearly crushes your skull. As a human your slower reflexes would have been the death of you. As a savior, however, it seems you stand a chance. Leaping back, you come face to face with death itself. You don't have to be told it is death- you know it is.
"I've come for the dead one known as Adam..." The blurry black form speaks, rattling with what sounds like bones. Two narrow slits are visible within the fuzz, two glowing, narrow slits. It gazes at you without feeling.
"Where is Adam?"
"I am Adam..." You say softly.
"You are alive. Who dares mock death by summoning me?"
"I do. You are to kill this boy for me, death." He emphasizes the last part mockingly.
"I bring the souls of the deceased to the afterlife. I do not take human lives. You are a fool to-" Death's sentence is cut off as it is thrown backwards, screaming in agony. It lashes back, firing a wave of darkness that passes over the being you face without damaging him- or it- at all. Death realizes it stands no chance against one who cannot die, and it shows.
"You do not understand yet, do you? I am not from this earth. You kill this boy, I will leave you alone. Otherwise, I will stop you in your work, no souls will ever go to the afterlife again in peace." Death hisses in anger, but says nothing. You look on in horror as Death turns to you.
"I apologize. I am afraid I must do as he commands. It is shameful, but I have no other choice. Forgive me, child of Adam."
Child of... Adam? A thought hits you- could you be a descendant of Adam? From the Bible... Adam and Eve? It is ridiculous, but perhaps the savior of mankind... everyone believes Jesus himself will come to protect the earth in its time of need. Could a child of Adam do the same?

If so, then why must you fear Death? It has talked down to Death... why can't you? If you tell it who you are... if you promise protection... perhaps, just perhaps, you can win it over. You'll have to choose your words carefully. You are mortal, no matter how much power you have. To face death is suicide.
"WAIT!" You shout. Death hesitates, holding its scythe. Perhaps you cannot see its true form because man was never meant to look upon the eyes of the afterlife...
