Hall of Infinite Doors

You pick yourself up, cold, wet, but alive. There are some berries to eat, but that's about it.

It's unlikely anyone is looking for you, but nevertheless you stick to the lesser-traveled paths. You do not want to run into a patrol who might do worse than had already been done to you.

As you walk along, you think you hear singing. No, it's weeping. You walk toward the noise and see a beautiful girl of around twenty crying as she gathers berries from the bushes. She seems to be in a panicked hurry so much that she does not notice you.

You speak. "May I be of assistance?"

"Help if you wish, but if I do not pick this fruit before dark, my master will punish me!"

You immediately begin to pick berries. Later, at her instruction, you gather peaches from nearby trees. She is a very pretty blonde, but the pain of toil shows in her face and hands. Her attire is a corse, black frock worn as a dress. Were she born of different blood, her shapely figure and deep cleavage might provide her the best in the world. But for now she gathers fruit under threat of whip and torture.

When it is almost too dark to see, she sighs and picks up the load of fruit you picked.

"You must be that prince I always dreamed would rescue me from this lot."

"My lady," you reply, "I am but a weary traveller; though if you would permit me to stay with you this night, I would gladly give you whatever assistance you need in the morrow."

"You even speak like a prince!"

"I am only passing through."

"I have not a bed."

"The hay will be fine."

You chat amiably as you walk along toward the great house. With the torn clothes and dirty appearance you fit in with the others scurrying about. You learn her name is Rebecca, but that everyone calls her Becky.' She is a slave to Count Dolembar, a man you have heard of only for his noteriety. Her and her best friend, Candice, live in the dairy barn on the Count's property. She does not mind the work, but the Count is a letch.

You finally arrive at the barn. It's a little run down. After carrying the fruit to the kitchen, Becky shows you a pile of hay on the second story where you may sleep. You collapse exhausted. Soon Becky lays beside you, and together you gaze at the moon beyond the window.
