The Tale of Abigail
Abigail screams and stumble to the ground. She crawls back, carefully avoiding any radical movements as the beast crawls closer. Suddenly, she feels something cold and sharp- it's a sword!
With a newfound confidence, she stands up, brandishing the blade. "If you come closer," she breathes, "I will kill you. I promise you that."
The beast snarls, its cat eyes flickering uncertainly at Abigail and the blade. And then it pounces.
Abigail holds her ground and brings up the sword, prepared to plunge it into the beast. Suddenly, the monster is thrown back by an invisible force. Gasping, Abigail, turns around and finds a young, pregnant woman standing behind her with a look of concentration on her face.
The young woman straightens herself and wipes a drop of sweat off her brow. "Morgaza and her beasts...they irritate me."
Abigail swallows nervously, wondering if this woman is a friend or foe. She decides to stay silent, watching warily as the woman ties her blonde hair into a bun.
"Morgaza is the old woman you just killed, by the way," the woman says nonchalantly. "She was a witch. I'm pretty certain she was planning on eating you."
Abigail gapes at her.
"Honey, don't be surprised." The woman says, smiling. "On my way here, I stopped by her house- it was disgusting really, how many people she had chained up."
She looks directly at Abigail, her blue eyes light and curious. "Anyway, I released them all and cast memory spells on them. So that's taken care of, at least."
Abigail finally finds her voice. "Why are you telling me this?"
"I need your help, Abigail." The woman says, rubbing her pregnant belly fondly. "I need to find your mother, Rosalia."
"Why? Who are you?" Abigail asks warily. "And how do you know my name? And how do you know my mother?"
"My name is Valerie. And I am your mother's younger sister," the woman says boldly, stepping forward. She holds out a hand. "I have to find her quick- I have to warn her that our eldest sister, Lilith, is coming to hunt us down."
