Catharsis of Cthulhu
As you approach the newly evolved mold, you notice that the appendages tend to shy away from you. You attempt to categorize this movement as just another piece of evidence towards sentience and to not allow it to bother you.
Once you come within arm's reach of the mold, your mic begins to pic up a sound of flat power spectral density, otherwise known as white noise, something you didn't believe possible on M-5434's thin atmosphere. Your own analytical mind starts to pick up words and sounds that it thinks it recognizes in the noise.
You flick a small scalpel out of your hand and begin to extricate a small corner of fuzz from the mold. As soon as your scalpel touches the mold, the noise gets louder and becomes nearly disorienting.
Your ears start to repeat 'Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn,' over and over, a deafening chant in an indescribable language of horror. The sound only fades once you take your sample and retreat a few steps from the mold.
If you had a heart, you believe it might have just about burst from your chest. Your mind is sending off numerous warnings, telling you that you don't have enough data to properly confront this creature.
You try to tell yourself it was probably just a case of auditory pareidolia, a confusion of all the vague random stimulus the sound was causing. But, the explanation sounds weak, even to your reasonable mind.
