Star Ocean: Second Evolution

"How's it look? Any change from the pre-landing scans?" Ronyx asks.

Claude walks further ahead. The wind is cold and dry, and there is a sickly dust that clings to his clothes and skin. He dislikes the planet Milokeenia. It is far too eerie and desolate. Cold and bitter.

One of the Science Officers replies. "No, sir. None of the wavelengths are showing any response."

Claude looks ahead at the looming dome and cannot help but wonder why he was chosen to go along on this mission. He has no reason to be here. He is, afterall, only an ensign. But of course, it would only make sense that he would join his father on this mission to follow in his father's footsteps…

"The field resembles a magnetic energy field of some sort, but its exact nature is still uncertain at the moment."

Ronyx frowns at the news. "Hmm…So it's possible that it's absorbing all the waves from the sensors? All right. Let's try running a spectral analysis on the magnetic waves the field is emitting."
When finished with his orders, Ronyx walks over to his son. "Claude, you're a ranking officer now. Use this to protect everyone if something happens."

Claude takes the offered weapon. A phase gun. He frowns at it. Why wasn't he given it before the mission started?

Ronyx mistakes the cause of his frown. "What's wrong? Nervous?"

Claude looks away. "No… not exactly, sir…"

Ronyx walks away chuckling, "Don't tell me you're already quaking in your boots, Claude. It's not the kind of behavior I expect from an ensign."

Claude uneasily replies, "I…"

Ronyx interrupts him. "Don't be afraid to pull the trigger on that gun. It might just save your life."

Just then, the Science Officer returns with his findings. "No good, Admiral. There's no match with anything in our databases."

Ronyx seems curious. "Is that right? Well then, let's get a closer look at it."

With that statement, the group makes its way closer to the black dome.
