Uncertain Fortunes

The nursery staff loved their little prince. He slept peacefully through each night, with what they swore was a regal snore. They worshiped the dimples in his knees, and admired the soft fabric used to swaddle him.

The king was equally transfixed by the boy. He loved him as dearly as if he were his very own son. Some rumors suggested that he was, but the king paid them no mind. He named the young prince Felix Gavin Averly Duke of Windmore. It was a lot of name for a small boy, and even the king took to calling him Fee.

Fee's life was gilded, even his toys came dipped in gold. Everything was perfect, except that he was not the only young prince with a claim on the crown. Fee shared his gilded life with his young cousin Staunton, who was as wicked as Fee was kind.
