Daybreak
Blaine watched helplessly as the demoninja looked around the street corner, switching between normal and blue vision filters. It was clear that the demoninja was looking for something- or someone- but Blaine had no way of knowing for certain.
"I'm looking for the enemy," thought the demoninja, for Blaine's benefit. "An angel and its assistant has been wrecking havoc on several of our operatives in the area. If we lose any more troops, we may have to cut our losses and pull back. There are other cities where a few well-placed demoninjas could increase our influence significantly."
"So, what, you normally possess politicians and stuff?" thought Blaine, a little confused. "Then why possess me?"
"Because you are the same age as the enemy. I can defeat them without raising suspicion, kill you in a tragic but common teenage accident, and move onto a higher profile host."
The demoninja laughed at Blaine's sudden rush of terror, but paid no further attention to his host's thoughts. His targets were approaching. Blaine felt the bottom of his stomach drop. The demoninja's targets were Sonja and Cassidy. They looked like normal girls, but in reality they were an angel and a vampire. Blaine would have found this much harder to believe, but it's hard to disbelieve the supernatural when your body is being possessed by a demon skilled in the arts of ninjutsu.
The demoninja rummaged through Blaine's backpack, looking for suitable weapons. He found two mechanical pencils and a thin pad of stickynotes. With concentration, they were now two kunai and a handful of shurikens in sepia view. It wasn't much, but it would have to do. After all, he still had the element of surprise.
"Why, hello ladies," said the demoninja aloud. "Glorious spring day; not so? A pity to die." The demoninja threw his first shuriken at Sonja, before either could react. To the average onlooker, it appears as though Blaine had just thrown a few stickynotes at his classmate. On the blue spiritual plane, it looked like nothing. The forces of good never possessed mortals- the physical body was an empty shell. The angel would be wounded, and once she was dead, "Sonja" would be in a coma forever.
Or, she would have, except that she deflected the stickynote with an umbrella. Blaine cheered while the demoninja blinked in confusion. The shuriken shouldn't have been able to be deflected by such a weak object. Shifting into sepia, the demoninja discovered why. The umbrella was a katana, and the angel was a samurai.
A sharp, searing pain shot through Blaine's arm, and the demoninja grabbed his shoulder, wincing. Looking to his left, he discovered that Cassidy also had a sepia power. The vampire was also a pirate. The high heeled shoe in her hand doubled as a flintlockĀ she must have pulled it out of her purse? The demoninja could tell that he was quickly becoming outmatched. As Cassidy started to circle around, he decided to try a feint. Pretending to aim his shurikens at the vampire, the demoninja waited until he saw the angel lower her sword out of the corner of his eye. He spun quickly, trying to stab her heart with his kunai pencil.
He missed. The blade grazed her leg, but she too had been feinting. She slashed upward across his chest, creating a deep wound. Blaine sunk to his knees, his eyes watering in pain. "We will get you yet," said the demoninja, gasping for breath. "I am not the alpha wolf. Expect company."
"I welcome the challenge," replied Cassidy. Pulling out the other shoe from her purse, she placed the muzzle of the gun against the back of his head before pulling the trigger. Blaine fell forward onto the sidewalk as the demoninja died. As the evil spirit began to evaporate, Blaine could feel pins and needles on his outer limbs. Blaine stood up, slowly, as his body still felt numb all over. Still, it was his to control. The possession was over.
