The Adventures of King Richard
In the land of Europa, time is measured in ages. The record begins with the rule of the first King of Europa, Charles I, during the First Age of Enlightenment. It continues on through various ages, including an age of Plague, an age of Reclamation, another age of Enlightenment, and two ages of Defeat.
The Second Age of Reclamation began when King Charles IV, the monarch at the end of the Second Age of Defeat, was overthrown by an angry mob and replaced with King Bennett. The new king declared the beginning of a new age, waging war on the neighboring kingdoms of Anjou and Bretagne in an effort to unite the people of Europa and reclaim the nation's past glory. The war ended in success, with Europa swallowing the realm of Anjou and severely crippling the armies of Bretagne.
After King Bennett's death, his son Bennett II took the throne and began domestic reforms. He became quite popular with his subjects, but there was considerable concern for the stability of the new regime because it was well-known that Bennett II had health problems.
When Bennett II inevitably died just twelve years after taking the throne, it fell to his unruly son Charles V to manage the kingdom. The new king mishandled domestic policy and inspired a civilian revolt. Although the revolt was successfully extinguished, Charles V's public image was forever tarnished. After ruling for what seemed like a century to many of his irate subjects, Charles V unexpectedly died after drinking himself to death in the company of several foreign delegates. The incident generated a great deal of embarassment for Europa. The once-great kingdom became the laughingstock of the civilized world.
It fell to Charles V's only son to take control of the kingdom and bring it back to its former glory.
That son is you.
You have made it your primary mission as king to restore honor to Europa and ensure that the Second Age of Reclamation continues for generations to come.
