Life

You go into the little store. You look around and see that you are in a DVD shop.

Thinking that you actually do need some new DVDs, you walk over to the stands and look through the discs. Suddenly, someone calls you name, and turning around, you see that it is Ben, your crush. "Hi," he says, smiling.

"Hi," you reply, blushing a little. "So, what are you getting?" Ben asks, walking over to you and looking over your shoulder. You realize that you have been looking through National Geographic discs and flush in embarrassment. "Um, I wasn't planning to buy any of these," you say hastily as Ben stares at the videos.

"Oh, okay. Good," Ben says, and you think you hear some relief in his voice. "I'm really glad you happened to be here, too. I'm trying to help my girlfriend find a disc," he finishes.

All of a sudden, your throat feels tight. "Your girlfriend--is she here?" you say in a strange, woolly voice. Ben nods, and says, "She's right there, in the drama section," then points across the room. You turn around and see your friend, the one obsessed with the Transformers movies, staring at you. "Oh, hi!" your friend says when she sees you, and smiles. "What are you doing here, ___?"

She walks over and puts her arm around Ben, as if to say, "I know you like him, but he's mine!" You feel patronized. The tight feeling is still in your throat. What do you do?
