Hall of Infinite Doors

The cel keeps ringing. You feel some type of relief knowing its George on the other side. Yet, your resentment towards him quickly takes over. You answer the phone with anger.

"What do you want?" you say, clearly angry.

"Hey. How you doing?" George says, with a soft voice, as if he were a soldier ready to surrender.

"As if you cared." you say.

"I know I did wrong. But I just feel awful. You know I did love you. I do love you. It's just that when you told me about... ...that..." says George trying to justify himself.

"About the baby. Yes, the BABY. Go on, continue." you say, with clear resentment.

George laughs in defeat. "I guess I do deserve that." With a more confident voice. "OK, I know I don't deserve your forgiveness, and you don't have to take me back, but I'm ready to take responsibility for the baby. I was a jerk, but I don't want to be the asshole who left my girlfriend when she needed me most."

You stay silent for a moment, and then break the silence. "I'm having an abortion." you say with no emotion at all.

Both stay silent for a moment.

"An abortion?" says George confused and with fear. "That's a pretty hard decision to make. Are you sure about this?" he says with clear concern.

"Yes. I don't see how this baby would make me happy. It is basically destroying my life." you say.

George sighs. "Well if that is what you want. I guess is your decision after all. Do you need anything from..."

"No. If I need you I'll tell you." you say interrupting George.

"OK. Call me if you need..."

You hang up before he can end his sentence. You now have many feelings within you. At first you feel sorry for treating George that way, yet you feel he deserved it for what he did to you. Then you feel as though you could actually have the baby now, with his support. But then you think that if you back down now, you would be letting him get away with what he previously did.

You want revenge, but at the same time want to have a chance at a life with George.

Just as you start to decide, the Facebook conversation adds another written message. This time it says: "Don't even think about it."

Once again it is sent by Kate. Kate? You don't know a Kate. At least you don't think you do.
