Horoscopic
It's Shirley. She's calling from the hospital. The quake made her fall down her stairs and she broke her leg! Omigod...
But she's laughing. She tells me this proves horoscopes are legit! You see, her horoscope today said, "You will take an unexpected trip in the near future. It will be short, but will have a big impact."
I try to keep from laughing. I can't. Soon we're both just howling, laughing until I hear a worried nurse on her end, trying to pry the phone away. She promises to call back and hangs up.
And that, I suppose, is the punchline to this whole crazy business. I think I'll make cupcakes for Shirley, get her a bottle of wine, and admit that the universe has, at the very least, a sense of humor.
And thank goodness for that!
