"Well, I'm sorry Ren, but this potion is actually a gift for Quartus. It's not mine to give away."

"Liar!" he yelled, sticking out his tongue. "Quartus doesn't need a potion to do that. He's a... a Dagon-asterd." Ren avoided Nerek's grab, and darted out into the hallway. "Hey, guards! There's a pilgrim on the second floor!"

Cursing under his breath, Nerek ran toward the staircase, and didn't stop until he was back in his quarteres. Lione distracted the pair of guards that would have proven problematic, which meant he had to pay her yet again.

Worse yet, Nerek now had proof that Quartus was Piorre's son- Quartus himself knew this. But try as he might, Nerek was unable to find another opportunity to explore the upper corridors. Ren had taken to stalking him as if it were a game, and had invited all of his friends to play along. For the remainder of his stay, Nerek had anywhere from three to seven boys following him around, trying to stay hidden. Even if he could have been able to sneak around the castle, his entourage would have given him away.

Nerek was almost relieved when the rune on the back of his neck began to flash.
