You have tracked Carmen Sandiego to Rio de Janeiro, a city famous for its natural beauty and hotel-lined tourist beaches. The city was the capital of Brazil for nearly two centuries, from 1763 to 1960, when the capital was moved to Brasilia.

Copacabana Beach in Rio is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world. The strip adjacent to the two-mile long beach is the site of 10 hostels and 63 hotels, the best known of which is the luxurious Copacabana Palace Hotel. Restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and residential apartment buildings also litter the area. Recently, many popular musicians, including Rod Stewart, Lenny Kravitz, the Rolling Stones, Macy Gray, and Pharrell, have performed in front of huge crowds at Copacabana Beach.
