A Life With Pokemon
You manage to reach the front of the crowd after elbowing people several times and crash into a boy. He appeared to be a strong trainer due to the two badges you caught sight of. They were attached to his bag which he had set down. Three Pokemon hung at his belt. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously at you as he folded his arms.
"You're not allowed to approach the professor," he stated matter-of-factly.
"Oh...um...I just wanted to ask him something," you state, cursing yourself as you realized how stupid you sounded.
The boy rolled his eyes and was about to say something else when someone interrupted him.
"It's alright Renji, step aside."
You looked around the boy, catching sight of Professor Oak who smiled kindly at you.
"What is it that you want to ask me?" he asked.
"I-I wa-wanted to ask if I could have a Pokemon... you see...I want to travel with a Pokemon and there's no professor here that could help trainers get started..." you stammered.
Behind you, you could hera laughs and rude remarks.
There was a long silence that seemed to last forever.
"Okay, but first... let's see how you are with a Pokemon," the professor said.
You look up, staring at him in surprise.
"Renji, you could battle."
The boy looked up, surprise registering in his eyes before he turned to glare you.
"Fine."
"Very well then. Pick a Pokemon," the professor said, opening his case.
