Summer Vacation

"Yeah, it is pretty hot," you say, wiping your brow. "Why don't we get some drinks at my house? I see you don't have the fridge hooked up and the tap water is just nasty."

"That's not a bad idea," she replies, and away you two go across the street. You put the mower back away, enter your house and show her the fridge. She immediately grabs a can of your father's beer. It opens with a 'gush.' You grab a soda. "Taste's like piss," you explain.

While your father won't mind a beer missing, you're not sure that this is such a good idea. You guide her to the air conditioned living room, sit on the couch and turn on the tv. Nothing is on, but you still like sitting there with her.

"This is less than basic," says Emily after about half an hour of stultifying boredom. "Don't you know anyone? I'd love to meet your friends."
