The Horrible Thing That Slipped Through My Window One Night
They always said that the quiet little town of Climsford, Michigan was haunted. Of course, people said that about all quiet little towns, but Climsford was still probably the one that had the most proof to back it up. About every fifteen years or so, around the start of June, somebody from the town would turn up missing, although missing probably wouldn't be the best word; for whenever somebody disappeared in June, it was common knowledge where the body would be found. As the local legend went, every once in a while the corpses in the Climsford Cemetery became lonely and restless, and so they would climb out of the ground in search of some company to take back with them.
The so-called "rational" explanations for the mutilated bodies of victims occasionally turning up in caskets with long-deceased residents ranged far and wide. The most common belief, aside from that awful one about the corpses getting restless, was that a great many copycat murderers simply seemed to inhabit the town; certainly it couldn't be one person doing all the crimes the "casket-murders" had began well over a hundred years ago but still, who had ever heard of that many copycat killers in one town? A town that held three-hundred residents at best? It was a troubling question, but nonetheless, retribution was handed out to those believed to be responsible. Over the years, a great many people were hung, shot, electrocuted, and (most recently) sentenced to live their lives in high-security prisons. It wasn't a nice thought that there could be so many insane locals inhabiting Climsford, but it was a lot easier to believe than the local legends. A lot easier.
